Mitt Romney’s “60 Minutes” interview confirmed what we already knew – that he believes multimillionaires like himself should pay a lower tax rate than many middle-class families and that he’d leave millions of Americans with preexisting conditions on their own.
· Mitt Romney’s “60 Minutes” interview last night confirmed that when it comes to taxes and health care, his solution for the middle class is simple: you’re on your own.
o Must Watch: This video of Romney talking about taxes
· Taxes: Romney confirmed that his tax plan puts millionaires over the middle class. He said that while he made $20 million last year, he should pay a lower tax rate than a worker making $50,000 because he thinks it would promote economic growth.
o Romney is wrong. Tax breaks for millionaires and tax hikes for middle-class families lead to endless deficits, not economic growth or job creation.
o We learned that the hard way over the last decade. President Obama is fighting to ensure that millionaires like Romney pay the same rate as middle-class families.
o Romney’s plan would make it even worse, forcing the middle class to pay more in taxes so millionaires like himself can pay less.
and this video of Romney talking about health care on “60 Minutes” last night.
· Health Care: Romney confirmed that he would leave uninsured people on their own, saying that emergency rooms are a health care option for them, even though it’s the most expensive form of health care and raises premiums for everyone else.
o Romney has no problem that uninsured people with preexisting conditions wait until they’re really sick, rush to an ER and get billed into bankruptcy. His plan to repeal Obamacare would keep that situation a reality for millions of Americans.
o Romney’s plan raises costs for everyone. Each American family with insurance pays a hidden tax of $1,000 a year to cover health care for the uninsured.
o Romney used to know better. He said in 2010 that “it doesn’t make a lot of sense” for “people who have no health insurance and yet who can go to the emergency room and get entirely free care for which they have no responsibility.”
